Space, Aesthetic, & Money Issue

Posted By Nicole Bradshaw on Dec 12, 2007 at 12:09AM

This is sort of my own casa craving challenge. I'm moving in January and preplanning based on the layout I saw, so basically there's a large living room and I'm going to put a small desk & computer in the corner. I wanted to be able to partition this off and hide it when not in use.
What are some ideas? Cheap room dividers? Curtains that I could hang in the corner (how can you put a curtain in a corner & how can you put up a curtain w/o nails)? Other ideas?
Text, bookmarks, and lists are all welcome! :)

A Peaceful Bedroom

Posted By sgdish on Dec 5, 2007 at 8:19PM

Check out the restful feel of this hotel room in Las Vegas where I stayed last week. The dark chocolate walls, and pale lime green accents with cream and the HUGE LCD TV in the bedroom and the one over the tub was fantastic. I plan to incorporate some of these ideas into my master bedroom makeover.

time warp decor

I am always inspired by photos. If there is an era you really like, find books with pictures of it, then try to redo a room in your place that fits that time period.

Holiday Glamour with Glitter and Metallics

Posted By Tari007 on Oct 30, 2007 at 7:28AM

The holidays are right around the corner! Everything looks better on platinum and gold. This year turn up the holiday glamour with West Elm’s new metallic dinnerware and decorations.

Among many of their items my favorite this year include their metallic double-band dinnerware, their super-fun zebra stockings and tree skirt, their gold glass table turnings, and their sequence snow flake ornaments.

How you do decorate for the holidays? Do you spice it up every year choosing different colors like royal blue and burgundy, or teal and chocolate? Or do you prefer to decorate the most conventional way with reds and greens, gold and white?

Painting is a simple, cheap way to add spice to your crib. Check out this link for easy to follow advice on how to paint your place.
If you can't paint your walls, try collaging them, or theming your room with a color. For example, in my room now...I have lots of red Amor Amor bottles(which was once my signiture scent). I also had lots of pieces of red and purple glass, and a red poster. My next place(I move this week) my bedroom is two shades of violet, and will have lots of purple accents, black and sun burst furntiure, and lots of cool stuff. My living room, I am thinking of basing it around the immaculate heart colors-red,blue, and fire orange. I'll put up pics when I am done.

In the mean time, check out this groovy link!!

Lighting or lack there of can really make or break a room. It can set a mood or tone. Here are some lighting that I like.

Here are some of the best places to go when you are planning to decorate your pad.
1. Linens and Things
You can find bed linens here, often on sale. Curtains, picture frames the basics of living, but at a decent price, and most importantly, things are well made.

2. The supermarket
You read right!! The supermarket. You would be surprised, but in that little aisle where they have little odds and ends for the house, you can sometimes find cute little candle holders for no more the $3!! If you like religious art, go to the ethnic section of the supermarket, and you can buy those cool catholic prayer candles for under $5!!

3. Claires and Icing
These stores are excellent for throw pillows and picture frames and cute little accents like that!! They are very cheap which is nice, because you can afford to replace the stuff whenever you want at $10 a item or less.

Seriously, this place is amazing. Vases, mirrors, designer clothers...they got it all!! If you find a mirror or a piece of furniture and you find it slightly damaged, talk to the manager..sometimes they let you bargain the price down. I own this gorgeous Dark Oak floor length mirror(makes everyone look super thin). Anyway, it had a slight crack in the post, well the mirror was $80, but I got for $60, because of that crack. Remember it never hurts to ask.

5. Target
I like this store for online shopping. You can really find amazing furniture here!!

Online shopping can be a real god sent...just make sure its from a store you trust and can return items if they end up not being what you expect.
